Knee sliding is one of the things many motorcycle riders aspire to do. Successful knee down is a combination of lean angle and body position. Lean angle comes with corner speed and corner speed comes with experience and confidence. Once you've cracked it, you'll be cheering and examining that knee slider for the slight scuff you managed to achieve! This site aims to help those who haven't yet achieved knee sliding and need tips and advice on how to conquer the art. After a read of this site and some practice, you'll hear the "scrrrrrch" sound that is so familiar to many of us. Why knee slide? The art of knee sliding was originally discovered by motorcycle racers. They used their knee to gauge the lean angle of their bike in the corners and quickly discovered that wearing through their leathers wasn't a great idea. Once their knee touched down, they knew that they were near the grip limits of their tyres. Knee sliders were invented as a "buffer" to skim the tarmac surface and protect the leather. Nearly all leathers now come with knee sliders as standard. So come on; get your knee down like the top riders including Valentino Rossi, Casey Stoner and James Toseland. The MotoGP, World Superbike and British Superbike boys do it, now you can too! |
